Dutchfest 2012 | May 3 – 5

Dutchfest officially begins Friday, when food concessions (featuring our delicious pork bar-b-que sandwiches and homestyle Dutch foods) and the craft show open. Also featured on Friday are four different auctions: Winross Trucks & collectible toys, Heifer auction, Longaberger” Basket auction, and immediately following the Winross auction there will be a sports memorabilia auction. There’s sure to be something to interest everyone!

Quilt Auction

The Shalom Christian Academy quilt auction is a key highlight of the Dutchfest weekend. Each year some 50 to 65 quilts and wallhangings are sold at the auction.

The quilt committee works all year to put forth an outstanding array of items. The quilting bee takes place in January or February and completes a number of quilts in the Shalom school lobby. Moms, Grandmothers, and Shalom friends all participate in this very special event.

The quilt auction starts at 1:30 pm the Saturday of Dutchfest. The quilts and wall hangings are displayed in the school’s all purpose room Friday night and Saturday morning.

GENERAL AUCTION

The general auction takes place on Saturday of the sale starting at 9:30 am until all items are sold. There are special times for other auctions.
· 10:30 am – Handcrafted wood items
· 11:30 am – Antique items
· 1:30 pm – Quilts and Wall hangings

The general sale is supported by many area businesses and friends of Shalom who give great items for auction. We want to thank them for their generosity. We are expecting about 300 items to be auctioned. The general auction will conclude when all items are sold. There may be some items which will be sold after the quilt auction.

DutchFest Food

The Shalom Christian Academy Dutchfest features an outstanding array of food items that will satisfy your appetite throughout the two day event. Hundreds of volunteers prepare, display and serve food specialties. The food building built by sale volunteers in 1996, has provided selling space for 12 different items through the display windows.

Our Dutchfest food tent provides area for many other food items featuring strawberry pies and many other dessert items.

Longaberger™ Auction

The Longaberger™ basket auction is held on Friday night of the sale weekend. It is held in the Shalom Christian Academy library at 7:00pm. The baskets are displayed in the library from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm before the sale

The basket sale includes 25 to 50 baskets and very special Boyd’s™ Bears. It is a wonderful affair for ladies and men who enjoy bidding on special items.

Craft Show

Our craft show is located in the main lobby and gym areas on Friday evening from 5:30-9:00 and on Saturday from 8:00-3:30, and features many outstanding vendors, including wooden toys, jewelry, soaps, floral arrangements, quilted items, ceramics, calligraphy, dolls, and teddy bears.

If you are a craft vendor interested in obtaining information on how you can be part of the excitement, contact the school office at 717-375-2223.

Antique Auction

The antique auction is a part of our Saturday general auction. There are typically 20 to 30 antique items. These items are sold beginning at 11:30 am. The sale committee reserves the right to change the sale order.

Heifer & Livestock Auction

The Shalom Christian Academy Dutchfest Heifer Auction has been a main part of the celebration since 1977. This parent event has enlisted many volunteers to put on this successful auction that supports Christian education at Shalom Christian Academy.

Parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents and friends of Shalom Christian Academy have given of their time and livestock. The Heifer Committee meets throughout the year to organize this heifer and steer auction. The animals are cleaned, chipped, and prepped for the Friday evening event.

Our sale includes between 20 and 30 animals, farm products, a special wagon, a calf crate and other dairy related products.

Come Join us for a great sale for a very special purpose.
