Faculty Focus – Mrs. Judene Dunagan
Her job title may be Elementary Secretary, but Judene Dunagan spends her days doing so much more than her title implies. “If a screenplay were to be written about the elementary office, it would be a comedy with a little drama thrown in,” she said. “Besides the normal tasks, no two days are ever the same. Imagine your child times 245 – there’s never a dull moment.”
Each day she takes attendance, answers phone calls and emails, answers the door, sorts mail, assists the school nurse, notifies teachers of changes for student dismissal, and secures substitutes. She’s also in charge of sending out notices and flyers for all kinds of activities, preparing programs for events, prepping materials for screenings, and sending out report cards. “The summer is spent preparing for the next school year,” she said.
Mrs. Dunagan says she has seen how Shalom is like a caring family that wants to make a difference in the lives of children – first as a Shalom parent, and now as an employee. “I am proud to work here because I see the genuine care that everyone has for the students, as well as the families and each other,” she said. “Coming to work each day is meaningful because I get to see the smiles on the kids’ faces and I’m able to make a difference in young people’s lives.”
In 2018, Mrs. Dunagan and her husband Dewayne will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They have two children – Tony in the Army serving in Hawaii and Kylie, in 5th grade at Shalom. They enjoy traveling and laughing together. The family also has a dog and two cats. When she’s not working, Mrs. Dunagan enjoys cooking, baking, and candy making and listening, singing and playing music. The Dunagan family lives in Greencastle.
