Faculty (& Staff) Focus – Mr. Jeryl Hoover

Like any dedicated accountant, Mr. Jeryl Hoover loves to pore over numbers and spreadsheets. As Shalom Christian Academy’s Business Manager, he spends his days processing payroll, paying bills, and managing the finances of a constantly growing organization. He also likes that his job gets him out of the office too. “Every day is different,” he said. “One day I might be sitting at my desk paying bills, processing payroll or making out a deposit, another day I might be meeting a donor with Mr. Shaker and another day I might be working with some of the awesome students at Shalom.”

Mr. Hoover earned a degree in Computerized Accounting Management and worked as an office manager before joining the staff of Shalom in 2004. He says the Shalom office and administrative staff all work well together. “We have fun working together. We care about each other both in our work lives and our personal lives,” he said.

“Because of the position I am in at Shalom I get to see God using His people to give to Shalom in so many ways. Gifts of finance, time, goods or services all benefit the mission of Shalom. This is what makes Shalom great, not only for the students and families that attend here, but also the faculty and staff who work here,” Mr. Hoover said. “I enjoy being a part of the community of Shalom and working with an awesome staff and faculty to help students develop a life of consequence in this world for the kingdom of God.”

While he loves working for an organization that has the same beliefs he does, Mr. Hoover says the best part of working at Shalom is that his family is also at the school. His wife, Mrs. Roxanne Hoover, works as a middle school teacher and his daughters Paige and Emily are in 11th and 7th grade. “Seeing my wife and daughters throughout the day is such a blessing,” he said.

Outside of school, Mr. Hoover enjoys watching his daughters play for the Shalom Flames volleyball and basketball teams. “I also enjoy playing and watching sports, cheering on my favorite teams, the Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State Nittany Lions football and North Carolina Tar Heels basketball,” he said. The Hoovers live in Chambersburg and attend Bethel Assembly of God.
