Senior Missions Trip to Guatemala Oct. 25 – Nov. 3
The Shalom Christian Academy Class of 2017 will be leaving at the end of October for their mission trip to Guatemala! These servant students will be teaming with Rob Cahill, a missionary for the past 15 years in Coban. Rob and his wife have been assisting Cloud Forest Conservation (www.cloudforestconservation.org) and also work with the local Q’eqchi’ girls to further their education. He has established a farm where the girls learn skills such as making soap, candles, and jams. They also learn agricultural skills and other practices to further their income and lifestyle.
Our seniors will be taking comforters made by the Cumberland Valley Relief Center to use and keep at the Farm. They will also be transporting galvanized nails which cannot be secured in Guatemala, but imperative for building sturdy structures.
Further, the students and advisors will be staying in a remote village for 3 days and 2 nights. The people are of Mayan descent and live in primitive means. Seniors will then take a day off for fun and relaxation at the Semuc Champey, also know as God’s Water Park.
The students have planned and saved for this experience since they were in 9th grade. A commissioning service will be held Monday afternoon, October 24th. They will be keeping us posted as they serve. Keep the class and advisers in your prayers!
